My joy is full
Shabbat shalom.
It is Friday night in Jerusalem. I have a full tummy and an overflowing heart. I shared a taste of Texas/Minnesota with new friends. I came home to find my water restored and a password to the neighbor's wi-fi signal. I took a proper shower and then talked to mom on the phone for an hour.
Dinner prep and breaking bread
Last night I made a stack of flour tortillas for tonight's dinner. I finally got the recipe to my liking (cut the salt in half and was more conscious of letting the dough tell me how much milk I need to actually mix into the flour).
This morning, after the Torah reading, Nancy and I went to the market for a roasted chicken, fruits, veggies and challah bread. In the early afternoon, we headed back to her place. She let me use her computer to check e-mail and such while she took a nap.
At 4 p.m. I started chopping tomatoes, onions, peppers and cilantro for the chicken guiso (Mexican stir fry) and for pico de gallo (course "salsa"). Our first guests arrived just before 6 p.m. ... our number was completed about 6:30.
The meal was well received (and I certainly enjoyed cradling a tortilla in my hand and filling it to my heart's content). Nancy made sure we ended well with watermelon, chocolate oatmeal cookie bars, banana bread, cofffee and tea. It was a full meal. (No photos as I was the cook.)
Abba's gifts
Before I left this morning, I left my neighbor a note offering him to pay a portion of the Internet bill for access. I returned this evening to find a note on my door with the password.
For a week now, the water pressure dropped until it was a trickle most times. The handyman tried to fix it yesterday, but he lacked the appropriate tool for the job. He told me he'd return Friday. When I got home this evening, water pressure was at full strength and the hot water was flowing.
At dinner, I met a couple who rents a home in the Galilee. They have to go up to take care of some business Monday, and they invited me to tag along. I've been wanting to see the Sea of Galilee.
What a full day. My God is good. He provides mightily.
I pray you all have a restful weekend. Shabbat shalom.

Beautiful tortillas! I'm so glad you enjoyed a great meal in good company! I'm sure it's a huge blessing to have hot water coming out at full speed AND an agreement with your neighbor for internet service. God is taking care of you. Hallelujah! Love, GAil
awesome post... i'm anxious for your day in Galilee!
i like your new self-portrait and that you had a chance to share tortillas, guiso, pico and such amerimex goodness with your friends (family in Christ) in the East.
:D
sounds like a wonderful evening. May your weekend be blessed!
Oh, yum! My mouth is watering. that picture looks so wonderful. I am so glad you had a nice shabbat, and thankful that your neighbor is happy to share the connection. God is so good!
That sounds like a wonderful meal! We ate at Casa Ole tonight. I was going through Mexican food withdrawal, since we have been avoiding it because of Weight Watcher's.
How wonderful to be going to see the Sea of Galilee. I do hope you will be able to get some photos and share them. Dinner sounds like it was yummy and you all had a good time. Have a wonderful week end.
@SingingMom - Here's a simple meal that may take the edge off your withdrawal (when you need a fix). (Tweak it as you need to so that it complies with Weight Watcher's guidelines.)
Buy a roasted chicken... the kind they have the grocery store ready to eat. Take it home and take it off the bone and shred it.
Chop up some onions, tomatoes, jalapeño or long green pepper (or which ever pepper you like for flavor and heat). You want quite a bit because you are going to add some the chicken and keep some fresh as a "salsa."
Your "salsa" is a pico de gallo. Just mix the chopped onions, tomatoes, pepper in a ratio you like. Add chopped cilantro to taste. Toss with a bit of salt and lots of lemon/lime juice.
In a skillet, heat just a bit of oil. Toss in some onions and clarify those. Then add the shredded chicken. You're just warming it up, really. Then add the tomato, some cilantro and even peppers if you like.
Use corn tortillas, cause they're better for you than flour. Warm those on the flame or in a hot pan or griddle.
Now you're ready to make soft tacos. Get the flavors up high and the heat, if you can stand it. Keep cut lemons/limes on the table to add more zing to your taco as you go. You won't miss the cheese or the sour cream (well, too much).
Try this and then tweak the spices to your palette (maybe add a bit of cumin and or hotter peppers).
W O N D E R F U L !!!! I am sooooooo excited for your Galilee trip ~ wooohoooooo!!!!
p.s. W A Y K E W L PROFILE PIC!!!!
Good for you! I bet they were really good. I had no idea flour tortillas were made with baking powder and milk. I thought it was just salt, flour, lard, and water.
P.S. Your picture is better than hers.
@BooksForMe - you are sweet.
