Jacko did what the mullahs in Iran could not
News with a Side of Satire
Well, this will be the extent of my Michael Jackson posts. Lisa Marie's revelation makes Jackson's death that much sadder. The crashing of the Internet was a curious sidebar to the whole thing.
But as my friend VangelicMonk said: "The saddest part of this whole thing is NOT about Michael, his fans, his family or even his kids. Those are sad, but it is NOT the saddest thing. The saddest thing is that this event has overtaken an earlier event that had seen to be something that could have changed a large part of the world. Not wacko Jacko, but the Iranian protesters in Iran. Jacko has done the thing that the Mullah's in Iran were not able to do. To get the focus off of them and on something else. "“I want the judiciary to … punish leading rioters firmly and without showing any mercy to teach everyone a lesson,” Ahmad Khatami told worshippers at Tehran University. Khatami, a member of the Assembly of Experts, said the judiciary should charge the leading “rioters” as being “mohareb” or one who wages war against God. “They should be punished ruthlessly and savagely,” he said. Under Iran’s Islamic law, punishment for people convicted as mohareb is execution. - SAN FRANCISCO SENTINEL.com
Local staff members at the British Embassy in Tehran have been arrested, the Foreign Office in London told CNN Sunday, confirming earlier reports from Iran's government-backed Press TV. Last week, Tehran expelled two British diplomats. London responded by kicking out two Iranian envoys. Iran then recalled its ambassador to Britain, saying it would reconsider its diplomatic ties with the United Kingdom. -CNN.com

Michael Jackson knew "exactly how his fate would be played out" and feared his death would echo that of Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie Presley wrote in an online blog posted Friday morning. Jackson talked with her about his death during "a deep conversation" 14 years ago about "the circumstances of my father's death." "At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, 'I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did,' " Presley wrote. - CNN.com[tags: news, michael jackson, Elvis Presley]
How many people does it take to break the Internet? On June 25, we found out it's just one -- if that one is Michael Jackson. Twitter crashed as users saw multiple "fail whales" -- the illustrations the site uses as error messages -- user FoieGrasie posting, "Irony: The protesters in Iran using Twitter as com are unable to get online because of all the posts of 'Michael Jackson RIP.' Well done." Mashable.com reported that tributes to, and remarks upon, Michael Jackson's death were responsible for 30 percent of tweets. - CNN.com

Israeli basketball star Omri Casspi took a huge step in his Israel-to-NBA saga Thursday when he became the first Israeli player ever selected in the first round of the NBA Draft - an important, but certainly not final, stage in an attempted journey to the world's preeminent professional basketball league. Casspi is the focus of a national obsession with the idea of an Israeli making it into the NBA, in which some 20 percent of the players are foreigners.

the worship of that sad man is beyond me...no news with the cleric calling for the execution of the protesters...but the guy they are willing to die for is just as bad as the one they want out...i see it more as a government coup rather than contested election...it won't turn out well either way...
@tialoca_talks - i agree concerning the situation in iran. still, let's continue to pray.
i always enjoy reading these. thanks dearie.
How sad that his death overshadowed what is really going on in the world that needs attention.
I am just amazed that Michael Jackson is drawing this much press. What a sad man. I have been thinking this was another press diversion (Whenever the media starts focusing on something relatively unimportant, that's usually when Congress is sneaking another ridiculous bill through) but the Twitter thing shows that there really was a huge response--totally weird. I'm sad that he died, too, simply because I always hope that tormented souls like him will find Jesus and peace, but it is amazing to me how much people still cared about him.
That Facebook group is hilarious!
