Honduras Lies; Biden on Israel; Israel on Obama;
News (UPDATE) with a side of...
Compassion. From the media? You got it. The last piece is a surprisingly graceful political opinion from (you'll never guess) National Public Radio. Yeah, them. Do read that lovely column... but to do so, you'll have to slog through:- The truth about Honduras - I've just added this bullet after reading a blog entry from a friend. For those who haven't been following closely, there are two versions of the Honduras unrest. One says the military deposed the president in a power grab. That's the one the Obama administration is running with. The other version is that the Honduran president was about to dissolve the constitution and the congress, so the supreme court order the arrest of the president. The blog entry linked is by a Christian missionary who's worked in Honduras for years. He sets the record straight.
- Joe Biden - Love what he's saying. Question: When he contradicts Obama, is Biden sticking his foot in his mouth or is he meant to create confusion?
- Israel polls - 6 percent (six) of Israeli think Obama's pro-Israel. On Facebook, someone suggested that fraction of the population are robots.
The whole of this article is a bit dry, but if you care about Israel, read it. I learned a lot about U.S.-Israel relations and how the public views that alliance. - Veggies - You gotta read this blurb. I've tried to retain the LOL factor in my edit.
The US will not stand in Israel's way if Israel believes military action is needed to eliminate Iran's nuclear threat, Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday, during an interview with ABC's 'This Week.' He said that Israel can determine for itself "what's in their interest and what they decide to do relative to Iran and anyone else." When questioned if Israel could make that decision "whether [the US] agrees or not," Biden answered in the affirmative, noting, "Any sovereign nation is entitled to do that." - JERUSALEM POST

Several public opinion surveys have suggested that Obama's popularity has dropped far below this already low point. A Jerusalem Post-commissioned poll released on June 19 reported that only 6% of Jewish Israelis consider his views pro-Israel. To Rafi Smith, head of the polling firm that conducted the survey, it is clear what is happening. Israelis, he said, see Obama "as the opposite of George Bush, who was perceived as the biggest friend of Israel. Obama is seen as a 180-degree turn." - HA'ARETZ.com
The European Union rescinded a two-decade-old regulation in an attempt to end what it calls unnecessary marketing standards. "Bureaucrats are telling us what's a perfect peach, and I think that a perfect peach is actually a very elusive thing, and it doesn't always have to do with how it looks at all," food columnist Diane Henry says. The rules against misshapen produce are followed more stringently in some EU member states than in others. "I have to say that the problem in Britain with this is that we seem to me to be quite law-abiding," she says. "I go to France and I go to Portugal, and they don't care what shape their tomatoes are, and they don't care what shape their cucumbers are. They seem to think, 'Well, it's just laws and we'll break them.' That's quite the Mediterranean spirit in a way, but in Britain we tend to slavishly follow [the rules]." - NPR.org
A hotshot fighter pilot teamed up with one of her heroes to get the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to a group of women of which most Americans have never heard. Even though they wore uniforms and worked on bases, the members of WASP were never considered members of the military. Their contribution to the war effort was so controversial, in fact, that all records pertaining to their service were sealed and deemed classified in 1944. - NPR.org

OPINION - I have that thought today because of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's announcement that she is resigning. I have no idea if she is, as NPR's Politics blog so nicely headlines it, "Retreating Or Reloading." Politicians are human. If you prick them, they will bleed. If you pet them, they'll lick your hand. They're filled with anxieties, contradictions and duplicities, but I wonder what groups, including journalists, salespeople, hammer dulcimer makers or Franciscan priests, are not. - NPR.org

i'm intrigued by Palin's resignation... I wonder what she's up to.. I hope she's not done with politics yet- this nation could use a level head like hers somewhere in office.
@PreciousOnyx - See my pulses from a few days back:
Headline of the day, from NPR.org -- "Palin: Really Retreating Or Just Reloading?" Reloading, of course. :P
Pray for Palin. Resignation is being called bizarre. Sometimes God asks
us to do bizarre-to-us things. May He sustain, guide her.
I am sure she is a sister in Messiah... the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men.
most israeli's are correct...obama is not their friend...i have a friend who sells veggies in germany...i'm gonna ask him how his shape is..hahahahah
As far as I was concerned, Israel was the single most important issue in 08 elections. Unfortunately, it was nearly impossible to decide where candidates should on the issue.
Thanks for that Honduras link. When I read about them issuing papers to hundreds of Venezuelans, I thought that was pretty smart. What would stop Obama from doing that here, if it served his purposes?
I was wondering about what Biden was saying, too. I liked what he was saying, but wondered if Obama would like it or make Gibbs come up with some way of convincing us that wasn't what he was actually saying!
Hey Chile Girl......too tired to think right now. I read this in my subs earlier today.....[LOL at the vegies :P ]
Thanks as always for the timely news.
Oh, my....I bought some humongous cucumbers at HEB today. I wonder if they would be legal? *shaking head*
I cannot understand anyone that thinks Obama is a friend to Israel. He will be the one who turns American policy completely against Israel.

Reading the article on Honduras:
We have talked to the poor and many of them tell us they prefer to eat only tortillas and salt rather than live under a Chavez puppet. The poor that Zelaya promised to help have received nothing in three and a half years of his presidency.
I predict we will be able to substitute the name "Obama" for "Zelaya" soon in our country.
Very interesting and a lot to think about. I am thinking Palin resigned to set her eyes on a bigger prize than what she is resigning from. Only time will tell.
NPR maybe giving out good press but the syndicated media is really trashing Palin, as people mentioned. There's an article here. Maybe the puppet masters can't pull her strings so they want to try and just trash her.
That's an interesting contrast between Obama and Biden, seems like Biden is more pro-Israel.
@templestream - Yeah, I know they are trashing her. They've been trashing her since before the election. I just wanted to show a great exception.
